A politician says he understands the people because he does not overcomplicate things. He listens to anger, frustration, nostalgia and fear — then turns them into something simpler, cleaner and easier to repeat.

At first, that feels like representation.

Later, the slogans become more familiar than the questions, the crowds more organised than the disagreements, and the “voice of the people” begins to sound suspiciously like the voice of the man speaking for them.

The Voice of the People — Which Sounds a Lot Like Mine is a dry political satire about populism, certainty, self-deception and the subtle moment when listening to the public becomes teaching the public what to say.
